There are three classes of membership namely:
- Ordinary members
- Associate members
- Extended members known as Farmers’ in touch (FIT)
Ordinary Members
Ordinary membership is open to any person who
- Normally derives his sole or principal means of livelihood from agriculture carried on by him in Zimbabwe or elsewhere in Africa, whatever the area of land or which he carries on agricultural operations.
- Formerly held a farmers’ licence but who is now retired.
- Is over the age of 18 years and is the son or daughter of a person who holds or has held a farmers’ licence.
- Is a farm manager, farm assistant or farm pupil and who, if he were to engage in farming on his own account, would fall within the provisions of the above clause 1.
Associate Membership
Associate membership shall be open to any person who does not derive his principal means of livelihood from any form of agricultural operation but who- Is actively associated with the agricultural industry in Zimbabwe as a producer, supplier, distributor, buyer, transporter or processor of any farm of input, machinery, equipment or other goods and services that are required for agricultural produce.
- Is an active supporter of the Union and its objectives.
- A farmers’ union or association that is based in Zimbabwe or in another country in Africa.
- Is prepared to pay the subscription fixed by the Council from time to time.
Extended Membership
Extended membership shall be open to any person wherever such person may be resident or based, who is accepted by the Council as being:
- A former member of the Union.
- A person who has previously been actively involved with the commercial farming industry in Zimbabwe.
- A member or former member of a farmers’ union or association that is based in a country in Africa.
- A person who is seeking the opportunity to enter the agricultural industry anywhere in Africa and who actively supports the Union and its objectives and is prepared to pay the subscription fixed by Council from time to time for extended membership.
General
- The Council shall not refuse membership of the Union to any applicant on the grounds of race, colour, creed, gender or political persuasion.
- Should any member so conduct himself that in the opinion of the Council, his conduct is detrimental to the interests or good standing of the Union or in any substantial element of its membership, the Council may terminate the membership of that person.
